A Factory Handover to Remember

A NEW CHAPER IN RIVIERA OWNERSHIP

Taking delivery of a new Riviera is always a special moment, but for the new owners of a Riviera 585 SUV, the experience became much more than simply stepping aboard their next vessel.

Having previously owned a Riviera 52 and other Riviera vessels, the owners were already familiar with the brand, the lifestyle and the support that comes with boating through R Marine Crawley. Their new 585 SUV marked the beginning of a fresh chapter, shaped by long-range cruising, fishing, time with friends and a desire to make boating easier, more comfortable and more enjoyable for the years ahead.

After many years enjoying their previous flybridge model, the owners were ready for a layout that better suited how they now use their boat. The open cockpit, single-level living, hydraulic swim platform, foredeck entertaining space and generous mezzanine were all major drawcards. For owners who spend extended periods cruising north to Hervey Bay, the Bunker Group, the Whitsundays and beyond, the Riviera 585 SUV offered a combination of practicality and refinement that felt just right.

A Factory Handover Experience

While the vessel itself was a significant step forward, the handover experience made an equally strong impression.

Unlike their previous handover, which took place at Runaway Bay, this delivery was carried out at the Riviera factory. For the owners, this added a completely different level of connection to the boat. Being able to meet and speak directly with members of the Riviera team who had been involved in building the vessel gave the process a much more personal feel.

One of the standout moments was having factory personnel onboard to walk through systems, answer questions and explain elements of the boat in detail. Rather than simply receiving a new vessel, the owners felt they were being introduced to it by the very people who understood it best.

They also appreciated meeting members of the wider production team, including those who had worked hands-on across the build. For passionate Riviera owners, those small interactions matter. They add context, pride and a sense of craftsmanship to the delivery experience.

From the Boat Show to Delivery

The boat’s appearance at the boat show also became part of the story in a positive way. It gave the owners another opportunity to see the vessel presented in a premium setting and meet more of the people connected with its build.

One of those people was Zach, an apprentice who was stationed at the back of the boat during the show. The owners enjoyed speaking with him and learning more about his involvement across the 585 SUV line, including his work on earlier hulls and later builds. It was another example of how the experience extended beyond a simple delivery and created a stronger connection with the people behind the boat.

The People Behind the Process

Ben Leigh-Smith, known to many clients as BLS, was recognised for his role throughout the journey.

“You know, BLS, through the entire process, from the very first factory visit until after delivery of the thing, has been fantastic,” the owner said. “He’s been really responsive, super helpful.”

The experience was not limited to the technical side of the handover. The hospitality and personal touches also left a strong impression, with Molly from Riviera assisting throughout the day.

“On the catering side of it, Molly was forever running, grabbing us coffees and whatever,” the owner said. “But it was really nice to have a bit of a sit-down lunch; Ben Crawley and Travis Edney came along for that too.”

For the owners, those details helped create a genuine sense of occasion.

“So yeah, there’s a fair bit of a ‘make the customer feel important’ kind of vibe coming off with that.”

Carly’s support with registration, insurance, branded items and other delivery details was also appreciated, helping ensure the process felt considered, personal and well prepared.

Confidence After Delivery

These details are not always obvious from the outside, but they make a difference. A new vessel handover involves much more than a set of keys. It is the final stage of a long process that begins with early conversations, factory visits, decisions, updates and anticipation. When handled well, it gives owners confidence before they head out on their own.

As with any new vessel, there are minor details to work through, and the owners were pleased to have Dan assisting with warranty follow-up and support. With no major concerns and the team already helping with the small items, the owners can focus on enjoying the boat and becoming familiar with its many features.

Ready for the Next Decade

Now aboard their new Riviera 585 SUV, the owners are settling into the boat and discovering the features that will shape their future adventures. The dedicated laundry, generous storage, walk-around engine room, entertaining zones and offshore capability all add to the appeal.

Most importantly, the new vessel supports the way they love to go boating: extended coastal cruising, fishing, raft-ups with friends, local weekends away and long trips north. For owners who have already spent many years enjoying the Riviera lifestyle, this latest delivery represents both continuity and progression.

From the factory floor to the open water, their new Riviera 585 SUV has begun its journey in fitting style.
