Moreton Bay in Good Company: The RMC Baybound Crew Weekend Escape.

Over the weekend of 13–15 June, a fleet of 14 Riviera boats made their way through the waters of Moreton Bay for the RMC Baybound Crew weekend escape – a relaxed cruising getaway hosted by R Marine Crawley.

With 35 attendees across 14 Rivieras, including five RMC crew members, the weekend offered Riviera owners the chance to connect, cruise together, and discover some of the region’s best-kept boating spots. From leisurely mornings on the water to shared dinners at Sandstone Point Restaurant and a casual BBQ evening at Canaipa Point, the focus was simple: experience Moreton Bay as a group, and build the kind of confidence and camaraderie that turns occasional boaters into seasoned explorers.

The trip also reinforced what these weekends are really about – giving Riviera owners the opportunity to learn from each other, form new friendships, and feel inspired to venture further on their own journeys.

Here’s a closer look at what unfolded on this laid-back and memorable weekend on the bay.

The Baybound Cruise – A Weekend Snapshot

The RMC Baybound Crew weekend officially got underway at 8:00 AM on Friday 13 June, with 12 boats gathering at Sovereign Islands for departure, and two more joining the cruise along the way. Spirits were high as the convoy made their way north toward Moreton Bay, staying connected via VHF Channel 72.

Rather than stopping at Peel Island, the group cruised directly to Bribie Island to take sanctuary from the prevailing westerly wind. The Sport Yachts and SUVs made their way under the Bribie Bridge to anchor on the northern side, while the taller flybridge models remained anchored on the southern side.

That afternoon, everyone gathered at Sandstone Point, kicking things off at the Oyster Shack where they enjoyed fresh oysters and the warmth of the community firepit. As the evening cooled, the group moved up the hill to the Sandstone Point Hotel for dinner – a relaxed setting that offered the perfect backdrop for connecting with new faces and settling into the weekend vibe.

Saturday brought a mid-morning cruise to RQYS Canaipa Point, where the laid-back atmosphere continued. The well-maintained grounds provided an ideal setting for the group to relax and connect, and it was a pleasure to make use of the member facilities – especially as many of our RMC attendees are also members of RQYS Canaipa.

The afternoon was filled with light-hearted onshore games and friendly conversation, with plenty of room to spread out and enjoy the setting. As evening approached, everyone gathered around the firepit for a bring-your-own BBQ, where meals were shared and the stories flowed. One thoughtful RMC member brought along marshmallows for toasting, adding a sweet and nostalgic touch to the night. It was a relaxed and memorable evening, with simple pleasures and great company at the heart of it all.

Sunday’s departure was flexible, with boats free to head off as it suited their plans. Some took off early, a few lingered to soak up a bit more of the peaceful morning, but the majority cruised back alongside the RMC crew boat – a Riviera 5400 Sport Yacht Platinum Edition. The group left at 11:30 AM to align with the tides, ensuring a smooth and safe return journey to the Gold Coast. It was an easy wrap to a weekend that balanced independence with the comfort of cruising in company.
